Mindanao’s economy is driven mainly by agriculture. Hence, many institutions in the island offer degrees in agriculture focusing on production and farm management. But a degree in agribusiness provides a broader context—from farms to markets, from small scale to large scale, from domestic to global.
The Agribusiness Economics (ABE) program at the School of Management is a unique degree that offers exciting opportunities for you to learn about the breadth of the agribusiness supply chains in Mindanao. It integrates both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in economics, business, and management to address real-world issues and challenges in doing agribusiness within a globalized context.
Whether you choose to work for academia, government, or industry, the knowledge and skills gained from a degree in agribusiness economics give you a definite edge.
Here are some professions that you can pursue after graduating:
Students under the program are expected to engage in meaningful research. By “meaningful,” we mean intellectual inquiries that not only advance what we know about food and agribusiness systems in Mindanao but also create real-world impacts. Your research is envisioned to generate knowledge that feeds into policy and decision-making, which can improve the global competitiveness of agri-based industries or uplift the lives of marginalized sectors of the community such as smallholder farmers or small and medium enterprises.
Students who wish to enroll in the BS Agribusiness Economics program should take and pass the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT).
The UPCAT for incoming first year students for AY 2026-2027 is on 2 & 3 August 2025. For more updates, please visit the UPCAT website or their official Facebook page.
