BS Agribusiness Economics students present research findings during SOM Week

In the recently concluded SOM Week, one of the event’s highlights was the first-ever Agribusiness Economics Students’ Research Exhibit participated by UP Mindanao’s BSABE students held from March 19 to 21, 2025 at the Left Wing of the Admin Building of the University. 

The event showcased the research papers of BSABE students, showcasing their work on various agribusiness and economic issues that society faces today. 

The exhibit featured 13 research posters covering topics such as the following:

  1. Towards Sustainable Sardine Fishing: An Analysis of the Closed Fishing Season in Zamboanga Peninsula
  2. Mapping the Calamansi Industry: Understanding Value Chain Dynamics in the Philippines
  3. Peeling through the Layers of the Onion Industry: A Value Chain Analysis
  4. Modeling CO2 Emissions and Economic Sector Value Added – A Global Panel Data Analysis
  5. Price Cointegration Analysis in the Rice Market of the Philippines, 1990-2020
  6. Exploration of Challenges in Coffee Industry in Davao City Through Value Chain Analysis
  7. From Bean to Bliss: Unwrapping the Value Chain of Davao City’s Cacao Industry
  8. Drivers of Corn Production: A Comparative Analysis of the Major Corn Producing Regions in Mindanao
  9. Analysis of Factors Influencing Carbon Dioxide Emissions in Southeast Asia
  10. Value Chain Analysis of the Yellow Corn Sector in Tagum City, Philippines
  11. Determining Issues and Developing Strategies Towards Cooperative Resilience: The Case of Subasta Integrated Farmer’s Multi-Purpose Cooperative
  12. Exploring Management and Operations Performance of First Agrarian Reform Multipurpose Cooperative (FARMCOOP): A Case Study
  13. Analyzing Performance, Management Approach, And Challenges of Nestfarms Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (NEARBECO)

The students presented their findings to fellow students, faculty, and student visitors, facilitating discussions on the implications of their research for the agribusiness sector. Visitors engaged with the presenters, providing feedback and exploring potential applications of the research in the agribusiness industry. 

The SOM’s first research exhibit reinforced the BSABE program’s commitment to equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to address the challenges in the agribusiness sector today. 

The exhibit was co-organized by the Society of Agribusiness Economists, School of Management Student Council, Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Community of Practice (AANCoP), Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), and Australia Alumni Communities Philippines (AACPh).
